to quote the ever astute Michael Seguin...
"Otherwise, dear readers, I wish you all a happy New Year. I just bought an immense amount of liquor, and tomorrow night is shaping up to be the kind of evening in which I talk to Jesus." That pretty much sums up my night..... Wendy was having her "28th" birthday (we delicately do not enquire as to how many times this blessed event has occurred :) ), and we met up in Providence to pick up vegan cake and boat loads o' alcohol.... and who should be the cashier at the aptly named "High Spirits Liquor" on N. Main St except one Spencer Swain...oft stalked member of hometown band "Zox" (the eponymous band of the always cooler-than-thou-yet-totally-deserving-J on Zox). Poor Spencer was the recipient of a "Oh hey, Spencer!" before this humble author could realize that she was inserting a peripheral appendage into her too-glib orifice... And so the "oh, I went to highschool with Jon, big fan of your band, what are you up to these days?, oh the lead singer is going to Stanford Law??" ensued... Anyways, despite the too-rosey display of my semi-stalker-itude Re one Spencer Swain, we left in with 2 bottles of champers and 1 bottle of Hynotique (in a reference to le ghetto historique), and proceeded to get right squiffy....so, here's a nod to the oft-praised, ill-recompensed Michael S. of NeitzscheInMyPants...."I just bought an immense amount of liquor, and *tonight* is shaping up to be the kind of evening in which I *inappropriately talk to local rock stars who think I'm a pathetic groupie*".... Ta, Michael Sequin and the honorable Ms. N........Ta.... | | Thursday, April 9th, 2009 | | 4:53 pm |
Interesting items from Baltimore, MD...
1) Lumbar punctures don't hurt per se.... lidocaine injection is uncomfortable, and there is a really strong electric shock feeling down one leg when the gigundo needle goes into your spine, but it is brief and there is no pain from the actual needle in your back. The headache so far isn't bad....very mild pressure, got worse when i stood up for 15 mins. Haven't pushed my luck again so far, but it will probably go away by tonight. So, more disturbing/anxiety-inducing than anything else. 2) Minnesota Law finally ponied up with scholarship money--15,000 a year renewable. Woot. I think I can bargain them up a bit, which, combined with in-state tuition, should make them only marginally more expensive than the full ride at Iowa, with a stronger reputation and proximity to my most favorite cat-sitter ;) Plus, I mean, how could I miss out on the -35 degree wind-chills and *awesome* snow emergency parking options. I need to start planning an entry into the State Fair... butter sculpture tableau of the Senate recount perhaps? 3) Westin hotels are freakin ridiculously nice. Like seriously how do they afford this. Granted, I got a stellar deal on an Expedia one-day sale (85$/night including taxes!!), but still.... Stock tip: I anticipate impending bankruptcy, sell short ;) | | Thursday, March 12th, 2009 | | 8:10 pm |

Roooooooomba :)
So, I just bought a Roomba vacuum off of Ebay.... let the blind cat shenanigans ensue!!! I will post video after I manage to convince Winkie she likes riding it--come on, it's better at avoiding furniture than she is :) | | Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 | | 3:04 pm |
I'm Crafty...or, Fun with Jigsaws :)
Once upon a time, I moved cross-country to the land of gusty tundra and a paucity of closets. Thus, the powder room of my two genetically untalented feline friends lost its single-occupancy closet. Two months of the delightful feeling of litter underfoot in my bedroom and the wafting of Merlin's digestive experiments led to the burning desire to institute a radical change in the litter box paradigm. Enter broke-ass 1930s Lane cedar chest. Thanks to the beauty that is Craiglist Minneapolis, I secured a severely water-damaged but structurally intact Art Deco Lane cedar chest for $40. My insane antique-destroying idea: cut a feline friend-sized hole in the back, lock the aforementioned litter box and accompanying stench inside, hopefully curtailing the wafting with the cedar. Although I *did* win my 8th grade shop class CO2 car competition, my general lack of woodworking talent meant that this broke-ass chest was ideal, since the damage was already so bad that a hole really wouldn't make a difference at this point ;) Once a $25 jigsaw was secured on that same icon of secondary economy, Craigslist, I set to work. A few swipes of sandpaper later, and viola, finished product: Ahhh the sweet gritty smell of victory.....no, that's just the sawdust..... ________________________________________ ___________________ No fingers were lost in the making of this blog post. However, one blind cat was deeply confused by the racket, and barfed on the bathroom floor in protest. | | Thursday, September 25th, 2008 | | 5:25 pm |

Top Ten Things to See before you are old and decrepit?? :)
Ok, interwebbers....if you had to choose 10 places to see/things to do while you could still walk, what would they be? I don't mean a '10 things to see before you die' list, but more like a "Machu Picchu sucks if you can't climb around it" list. Anyone have any suggestions? | | Sunday, December 9th, 2007 | | 7:43 pm |
Winkie, the eyeless wonder cat :)
Introducing the world's cutest cat, Winkie! Yes, that's right, you don't see any eyes cause she doesn't have any--born without them. I rescued her from an evil "breeder" (cat mill owner) with the help of some awesome ladies at the AnimalKind Shelter in Hudson ( http://www.all-creatures.org/ak/). On a side note, any people in the Albany area looking to adopt a cat should definitely do so from AnimalKind--they keep the cats in a house-like environment, not cages, and take in strays and cruelty rescues. This is Winkie doing her best to figure out the scent-map of my apartment....we are in the 'walking in circles and meowing to make sure I am still there' stage right now :) I wish i could post videos cause she is just the cutest thing in person, but alas alack, not possible with my LJ skills! | | Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 | | 5:17 pm |

since the party in question is partying.....
The following update is brought to you because Lucy is lazy and hasn't updated her blog, so i can't congratulate her. Being an A-type, I have taken matters into my own hands! ---------------------------------------- --------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- --------------------------------- I have the distinct honor of being related to another Dr. of Science! Miss Lucia defended her PhD thesis today (okay--did her 'viva' for you oirish!), and passed without corrections!!!!!!!!! let the loafing begin (i kid, i kid....she IS a workaholic after all!) And now, a pictoral homage to the progress she has made through all her late nights in the office..... ;) | | Thursday, September 6th, 2007 | | 5:38 pm |

damn it feels good to be a GANGsta.....
so after having wasted a solid morning and the better part of the afternoon somewhat reading my minimally invasive spine surgery textbook while *waiting* for a freakin computer in the clinic to open up so i could actually get some *data collection* done, i have reached a very office-space-esque moment. fittingly, i now have the 'damn it feels good to be a gangsta' song from that movie stuck in my head. just perfect. who wants to bet that by the end of the day, i will end up mumbling that line to myself in front of one of the attendings, who will think i am a crackhead...a *white* crackhead. arg. the end. carry on. | | Sunday, May 20th, 2007 | | 7:50 pm |
